Peterborough-based Wilcox Commercial Vehicles has developed a walking-floor asphalt and aggregates trailer.

The unit has Keith 'V' walking floor system with nine steel 'planks' and a sloping bulkhead that moves with the load. This enables the payload to be expelled in four minutes but to cope with discharging into a paver, the walking floor can be controlled by a banksman or the paver operator using an infra-red remote control.

The bulkhead is retracted by a hydraulic winch which is also remote controlled, as is the sheeting system.

By using a lightweight Montracon full length steel chassis and insulated aluminium sides, Wilcox has been able to maintain a payload of 28t to 28.5t depending on the tractive unit employed.
