Bomag improves its smallest roller
Bomag has redesigned its smallest single drum roller, the BW 124 DH/PDH, for added flexibility and efficiency.
The unit has an operating weight of 3.3t and is available with a smooth drum (the BW 124 DH version) and with a pad foot roller drum (the BW 124 PDH). Bomag says that compact design and versatility characterise the BW 124. A mobile machine with a track radius of just 2.2m, it has been designed with such applications in mind as landscaping and trench backfilling.
Two amplitudes are standard and enable compaction forces to be adjusted to site requirements. The BW 124 can increase its utilisation with an optional dozer blade on the front frame. There is a choice of three blade types:
• Dozer blade with up/down function
• Dozer blade with up/down and pivot function
• Dozer blade with up/down and rotate function.
The BW 124 is described as a versatile and low-cost answer to many types of work as materials can be simultaneously distributed, shaped and compacted.
The new Deutz D2011 engine, with modern injection technology, gives enough power to drive with a dozer blade. Integrated oil/air cooling minimise servicing needs. Other features contributing to lower running costs include low-maintenance travel bearing, articulated joints and steering cylinder.
Bomag says that a major benefit of the redesign is seen in the standard "H" travel system. H stands for the Highest gradeability. Drum and rear axle are driven independently with an improved double pump system. This is a roller that has good off-road ability and gradeability of 55 percent even with vibration on.
The operator's platform has also been redeveloped, with a new roof integrating a ROPS and FOPS function. Visibility has also been improved and access made easier, Bomag says.
