JCB donates diggers for disaster relief
JCB is donating two 3CX backhoe loaders to help the disaster relief effort in Haiti following the devastating earthquake that is feared to have killed tens of thousands of people.
The gift from JCB Chairman Sir Anthony Bamford is in response to an appeal from relief agencies for foreign aid. The machines are being made available to the US Government, which is taking a leading role in the relief effort on the Caribbean island that was hit by a massive earthquake on Tuesday.
Sir Anthony Bamford said: "The scale of the devastation is unimaginable and it's heart-rending to see the human suffering caused by the disaster. There is clearly a lack of equipment on the island and I hope our gift of JCB machines will help in some small way to alleviate that suffering and in the rebuilding in the aftermath of the earthquake."
JCB has donated machinery to many parts of the world hit by natural disasters, including six backhoe loaders and a team of operators sent from its Shanghai factory help the clear-up effort in China's Sichuan province after an earthquake in 2008. Following the Asian Tsunami in 2004 it donated machines deployed to Thailand, southern India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia and last year it donated an excavator and a backhoe loader to help the relief effort in Padang city after an earthquake devastated the Indonesian island of Sumatra.
