Volvo mini digger takes down trees for firewood

As the UK grinds to a halt on the work front we can see here how in Sweden for instance snow is not such a problem and everyday work carries on unabated.

Robban C from Sweden sent in some superb photos taken on one of his jobs last winter which involved taking down trees which were to be used for firewood

In this first photo Robban is using his Volvo EC35 mini excavator to make sure the tree falls in the right direction. This stunning photo shows the light of an early winters morning in Sweden.

The felled timber is carried out of the forest area then loaded onto Robbans skip trailer using his log grab.

Robban gets to work loading the sawn up logs ready for transportation.

The sun sets very early in Sweden and Robban says that extra and good quality working lights are essential in the Scandinavian region.

Robban uses his Mercedes Benz MB-Trac 800 tractor to haul the timber. Robban says " lifting the front axle on the trailer puts a lot of extra weight on the tractor to increase traction on our icy roads, the Mercedes tractors have 60 % of their weight on the front wheels unloaded so putting extra weight on the trailer hook really makes a difference"

Robban has recently mounted ice studs on the wheels for extra traction, which is really needed on icy Swedish roads.

Robban has a two metre wide rake fitted to his machine which was built specially to assist in the clearence of twigs and branches.

In this photo Robban is clearing debris whilst the machine is actually stood on the ice of one of Swedens biggest lakes Lake Malaren. According to Robban the ice was so thick it would easily take the weight of much larger machines too!

And finally Robban heads for home after finishing the job. Icy roads for sure but we had a very nice winter last year he said.

Thanks must go to Robban for an insight in to how jobs continue during severely cold winter conditions in Sweden.
