Why you should never tailgate in a dumptruck

These incredible photo's sent to us by Ian Fraser from Australia show in graphic detail just why operators should never tailgate the dumptruck in front of them.

The first pair of photos show what I believe to be a pair of Komatsu trucks? Maybe one of our sharp eyed readers can confirm this.

The other accident involved two Caterpillar 793C dumptrucks and as you can see both trucks were loaded at the time of impact and bearing in mind that these trucks which are in the 400 ton class have a top speed of 37 mph it must of been one hell of a crash!

It is unclear if the driver of this truck escaped with his life but I should imagine he must of been pretty badly injured in this accident looking at what is left of the cab on the truck.

Could this be the reason why so many mining and quarry companies in Australia, America, and Canada are now recruiting more women truck drivers then ever as they do not seem to get involved in the testosterone fuelled truck racing that male drivers get up to?

Just how could anyone of got out of this crushed cab!

Here at the Digger blog we would very much like to hear from female truck drivers on how they got into this kind of work and to write a post on their experiences in the industry.

I was in contact with a team of female drivers from the Alberta tar sands operation through our Facebook Friends of the Digger Blog page who were keen but sadly I have not heard back from them?

So if you would like to appear on the pages of the Digger blog please drop me a line.

Hi Nick problems that did occur in Africa Opencast Gold mines was operators falling asleep at the wheel on Cat777B only on night shift writing trucks off so the mine Superintendant came up with the idea of each operator on night shift with head phones that made a horific sqealing noise when there heads went forward that did the job but then an operator commented that if you put your head back it didnt work we just couldnt win ..
