SED Revisited part three - Fen Farm

With SED 2009 just three weeks away we conclude our look back at shows from the past with a look at my personal favourite venue Fen Farm Milton Keynes.

The show was held at Fen Farm from 1991-2005 and had a really open feel to the showground, if the sun was out it was a great place to be but it could get very windy and cold if the weather wasn't playing ball!

This fantastic aerial photo shows the sheer size of the showground.

Lets take a look back at some of the products that were on show during the fen farm years.

These photos courtesy of Mark Gunns show the VME stand at fen farm.Volvo stand1.jpg
1991 was the year that VME purchased the Swedish built Akerman range of excavators who's UK base was at Peterborough. Pictured here is a relatively new H16D on mass excavation rig which was sold to Chunnel Plant Hire. Also released at this time were the B series ADT's - here shown an A25B

Here is a great shot of the Komatsu stand at the 1991 event.

Leaping forward now to the 2004 show and here we see a Daewoo 255LCV 25 ton excavator being put through its paces.

The 2004 event enjoyed glorious weather as we see in this photo on a very busy Caterpillar stand with potential customers around the Cat D6RLGP dozer.

Of course it wouldn't be SED witout the stunts and here we see a couple of shots of the skilled demonstrators up to their usual antics!

And on the Engcon stand we were all presented with a sweet from the basket this excavator was passing around!

Looking now at the final year at Milton Keynes the 2005 show, and once again our old friend Doug Potter is up to his usual tricks on a Hyundai 140LC-7 on the Ernest Doe stand.
SED 2005 007.jpg
Rail equipment was very popular at the 2005 event and here we see a JCB JZ140R conversion by Philmor Rail, a 22000KG machine with zero tailswing a very useful piece of kit for rail work!SED 2005 005.jpg
Another unusal piece of kit which caught my eye at the 2005 event were the Australian manufactured Kanga loaders this one is a Series 7 loader.

And finally a look at the classic plant section which is always well represented at SED by members of the Lighthouse club.
Here an old fitter looks on at a Caterpillar 955F and was reminiscing to me about his time spent working on the final drives on this model ..Happy days !
