These amazing photo's have been sent to me by former Cat demonstrator and great supporter of the Digger blog Tom Aspin.
Taken by Tom at Burkino Fasso site of the De Beers Diamond Mine in West Africa.
They show an old Aveling Barford dumptruck that has gone into a swamp and overturned and a series of photos of the recovery.
Tom was employed by H. Leverton the now defunct Cat dealership which was part of the Unilever group to carry out operator instruction on the supplied Caterpillar equipment which included 2 966F loading shovels and various excavators and dozers.
Tom recalls many accidents happening with these old dumptrucks during his time in Africa more then likely caused by dodgy braking systems and of course operator error!
He has many more tales and photo's to share with us here and I look forward to posting them on the blog in the future.
