Motor scrapers in action - VIDEO

This great video shows how bulk muckshifting used to be done in the UK all the time, sadly these days they are rarely seen although the owner of the kit on display in this video Neil Becher still runs a fleet of these powerful earthmoving monsters to this day!

I just love the sound of those mighty Caterpillar engines as they belch out the black smoke powering up!

Just sit back and feel the power.

Hi Nick, see this video has surfaced again. I made this video when over at Neil Beachers West Chevington site in 94. There was also a fleet of 637 pushed loaded by a D9G on site and after a oil seal went on a D9h transmisson a Blackwells Komatsu 155 was brought in to do dual pushloading of the 657s. The scrapers are been pushed loaded down hill for quicker loading. Hope you all enjoy a step back in time when real earthmoving was done by skilled drivers.

David Hicks:

Message for Noel & others. Is there anymore footage of Motorscrapers working. Your Video brought back great memories for me. To Give you an idea. In 1968 apart from Laings construction Robert McAlpine had the first Cat 631c in the country. Along with the dreaded TS 24 Eucs.
This was on the A27 Shoreham By Pass.
My best time was working For WC French from Harlow, around 1969 M3 Hook & the Staines Datchett Resivoir, and then again on the M23 Gatwick 1972.We had those fantastic Cat 657's the early three speed then the 8 speed fully auto or semi auto boxes. Also i drove the fantastic Cat 992 shovel fitted with a 12 yard rock bucket. Also the Cat 16 grader,s c/d/e
And many other bits of plant, wonder if anyone old enough out there to rember those days. Regards David Hicks

Graeme McKie:

David Hicks, may I ask why you were not a fan of the Euc TS-24's?
