I have been inundated with emails following my posting of the JCB archive film clip here on Digger.
And it would appear that like myself many readers of Digger enjoy looking back at machines that have shaped our earthmoving heritage.
This old Poclain video features the EC1000 which when it was launched at the Paris Intermat show in 1970 was the largest excavator ever built at that time.
It had an operating weight of 160 tons and could operate as a 10-cubic yard face shovel or a 6.5 cubic yard backhoe. It was powered amazingly by three GM 8V71 diesel engines which developed 870 HP.
Truly an amazing excavator and way ahead of its time in the 1970's.
Unfortunately the video commentry is in French but it is still great to watch with some good shots of a Caterpillar D9G performing ripping duties aswell.
