As an operator I have been very keen on the tiltrotator systems that we have started to see here in the UK over the last few years, and with sales of such units on the increase could it be that we are finally starting to realise the benefits of these wonderful tools?
Tiltrotators have been a standard fitting on machines in Scandinavia, France, & The Netherlands for many years, in Sweden for example 98% of all excavators sold are fitted with a Tiltrotator, but sadly we have been slow to catch on here in the UK, this does not suprise me to be honest as we tend to be a bit negative about embracing new ideas in our country, quite often when I have tried to promote these systems to people that I am working for I get the response "well we don't need gimmicks like that" and "that wouldn't last 5 minutes on our site" and the old favourite "we have managed without them for the past 25 years" !
As an operator myself I see evidence everyday of how it would make my life a lot easier and indeed speed up my productivity, it is well documented that these systems can cut on site working times by up to a third, and in most cases the intial cost of the unit can easily be recouped within 12 months, the applications that you can use these tools for is only limited by ones imagination, but for me they come into there own when being used in landscaping works, with the tiltrotator acting like a wrist on the end of your excavators dipper the shaping you can achieve is amazing and all done with less movement of the base machine itself.
At the present moment in the UK the Tiltrotator market is represented by two Scandinavian manufacturers, Engcon, and SMP Swingotilt, you can find out more about these amazing products at the companys websites.
