HSS in hi-tech take off at Heathrow

HSS has secured a multi-million pound sole supplier contract to provide Heathrow Airport Limited (HAL) and its associated contractors with all the hired tools and equipment used on site.

Using what it calls the 'through the line' approach, HSS will provide a single point of contact and 24hr service to HAL and all onsite contractors for the provision of tools and equipment at pre-agreed rates. HAL will use HSS' online business management system, 'HSS LiveHire', to give transparency and control over its equipment portfolio.

BAA's Dennis Darwent said: "Partnering with HSS Hire has offered us an innovative solution to ensuring our own supply chain is as effective and as efficient as possible and that, by consolidating deliveries to site, will also help us achieve our environmental objectives."

HSS chief executive Chris Davies said the new collaborative partnership approach will help BAA save time and money by promoting price transparency and operational efficiency. He hopes it will also encourage the cross-hire of equipment between contractors to reduce downtime and the number of site deliveries.
